If you or someone you care about is a subject of legal proceedings, what’s in your/their consciousness is a primary determinant of the outcome.
How so? Consciousness determines how we respond to adversarial situations, such as legal accusation, investigation or trial. And the more constructive our responses (in emotion, intention, perception, speech, action), the better the outcome for everyone involved.
If we’ve broken the law, spirituality enables a more authentic assessment of our personal behavior and of the emotions, presumptions or mental habits that produced the offending behavior. This kind of response opens the way to self-correction of these erring thoughts, because spirituality is about practicing the qualities and capacities of all-intelligent, all-connecting, all-loving Spirit.
So here’s something you can DO. Practice being aware that Spirit is the source of all justice. Mentally embrace the fact that Spirit’s application of justice is equitable, based upon inner motives rather than simply external behavior. This practice, or prayer, enables us to respond to legal processes with greater honesty, humility and confidence. And with less fear.
Here’s another mental, spiritual action to try. Meditate on the fact that Spirit forgives as we self-correct, and is relating to us in the profound innocence that She bestows. Feeling more of the peace that comes with these spiritual facts enables us to respond to legal issues with greater poise and peace. With less inappropriate guilt or feeling we have something to hide.
Mary Baker Eddy’s words in her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures are a good guide for approaching legal issues:
Let Truth uncover and destroy error in God’s own way, and let human justice pattern the divine. (click here to read this in her book now)
